A jury awarded $1.9 million dollars after a jury trial in Lafayette County to a victim of a motorcycle accident who was injured in a construction zone. According to the attorney's, as reported in the Missouri Lawyers Weekly, October 24, 2011 edition, the last pretrial demand had been $1.1 million dollars and the last pretrial offer had been $500,000.00. The injury occurred as the motorcycle ride was trying to switch lanes on I-70 when he hit uneven payment and loss control of his vehicle. The Plaintiff's argued that there were no warning signs about the uneven lanes. The jury award listed actual damages of $125,000.00 and $1.75 million in punitive damages.

There was also a $2 million dollar settlement after a man sustained closed head injuries while working on the airport construction project. Some dynamite was used to assist in digging a tunnel and some of the dynamite failed to blow up or explode. The failure of those explosions was not reported to the Plaintiff who then was injured while drilling a hole and struck the undetonated dynamite. A 54 year old Florissant man who was rear ended at a red light was awarded $450,000.00 by a jury verdict. The medical bills at trial were estimated at $160,000.00. According to Missouri Lawyers Weekly the last demand in that case was $800,000.00 and the last offer was $50,000.00.

My old friend, Nelson Wolf is reported in Missouri Lawyer's Weekly as having won a $300,000.00 settlement after a man was overcome and killed by carbon monoxide while sleeping.

According to Missouri Lawyers Weekly a jury awarded $700,060.00 to a 69 year old man who successfully recovered for age discrimination.

In another vehicle, the Plaintiffs' lost their case to an insurance company defense attorney. The pretrial demand was $483,790.00 and a jury returned a defense verdict meaning they received no money. In that case, the Plaintiff that lost was a passenger in a minivan that was involved in a multiple vehicle collision in Joplin. The case was tried in Lincoln County.
